Abstract

The hatching of the eggs is carried out by both members of the grebe pair (Podiceps cristatus). While one of the two is on the nest the other keeps careful watch to ward off intruders. A coot (Fulica atra, Rallidae family) found itself passing a little too close and was promptly attacked!
