Text comprehension process

Abstract

Here we describe the product of the text comprehension process, namely semantic representation; the system that carries out this process, namely human memory; the role of inferential processes in the construction of a coherent mental representation; the linguistic and non-linguistic knowledge that is involved in the comprehension process. The importance of an in-depth knowledge of the text comprehension processes in developmental age is discussed, when the system that carries out the processing is immature, and linguistic knowledge is in the construction phase.
