This essay aims to reconsider freudian and lacanian insights on the topical/topological structure of the unconscious starting from the mathematical notion of topos introduced by Alexander Grothendieck in the 1950s. In particular, we will try to show how a topos theory can provide new tools for understanding the structure of the unconscious – understood as “another scene” or “topology” – giving new meaning to the intuitions of Freud and Lacan.
