L’“Ifigenia in Aulide” sul grande schermo: Cacoyannis optimus translator
Keywords:
Euripides, Iphigenia at Aulis, Cacoyannis, reception of classics, translation, classics and cinema, rhetoric of war, change of mindAbstract
This paper can be read as an effort to analyse M. Cacoyannis’ movie Iphigenia as an actual cinematographic translation of the ancient drama Iphigenia at Aulis. While focusing on Agamemnon’s and Iphigenia’s changes of mind, I try to show how the original plot and its dramatic dynamics are carefully saved yet adapted to express, as a paradigm, modern attitudes.
