This article focuses on the interpretation of Sophocles’ Antigone given by Friedrich Hölderlin in the difficult Notes to his translation and tries to explain why, according to Hölderlin, Greek tragedy and modern tragedy differ in the power attributed to the scenic ‘word’ (Wort).
