Since Whitman’s seminal studies in the 1960s, that of ‘comic hero’ is one of the interpretive keys to Aristophanic drama. This paper offers a reasoned synthesis of this concept, focussing on individual desire and on the emotional identification between the hero and the audience as the two fundamental elements of the nature of comic heroism.
