Abstract

The advent of chatGPT has further fueled discussions about the possible dangers of Artificial Intelligence. While everyone recognizes the immense potential of this technology, many also highlight the potential risks it poses to individuals and society. The article explains that some risks are inherent to the machine learning algorithms that underlie the major successes of current Artificial Intelligence, while others arise from its improper use.
What are governments doing to protect us? In Europe, the European Parliament has just approved the AI Act, which regulates the development and use of AI-based systems. This is an important initial step that could have significant implications, but only if scientific research develops adequate technical support to ensure that systems comply with the regulations.
