Between the late 1960s and early 1980s, a lively confrontation took place in Italy between opposing historiographic and epistemological approaches of Marxist inspiration. The controversy between historical materialism and dialectical materialism, for example, found its representation exemplary in the 'groups' headed by Ludovico Geymonat and Marcello Cini.
The article proposes a 'critical memory' of these discussions and recalls the numerous publications that flourished in that period, devoting particular attention to the experience of Texts & Contexts.
