The complexity of the relationship between science and war

Abstract

The links between scientific research and military applications are very complex, especially with the exaggerated application of the most advanced innovations to "weapon systems". Knowledge transfer is not only direct. The problem has quantitative and qualitative
aspects. The portion of the scientific community that works for armaments is enormous: there are large research laboratories with thousands of state or corporate researchers, but many scientists and technicians work on subjects also indirectly linked to armaments.
