Rivinus and the others. Seventeenth-century German taxonomists
Abstract
Starting from the second half of the sixteenth century, a strong interest in taxonomy in the botanical field developed. The German area was particularly fruitful in reflections and proposals. The presence of so many states had in fact produced an unusual number of universities where Materia medica, i.e. pharmaceutical botany, was taught. From Joachim Junge (Jungius), who influenced the Englishman John Ray, to August Bachman (Rivinus) and Christoph Knaut (Knautius), the article reconstructs this rich season of botanical publications.
