Casa Malaparte has been respected by everyone far too much, preventing it from generating in reality or in the imagination that boundless universe of multiple variations that suited its enigmatic charisma.
This masterpiece was clearly a magnificent trap. It embodied too many meanings for one reason to prevail over the other. One could hear the echo of fascism, of war, of power, that of communism, of freedom and, above all, the essence of an extraordinary man who had made it a myth in stone. By accepting an invitation to the 2014 Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition, where I was asked to attempt to alter it, I realized that this was the only way forward so that the red Capri sphinx could stretch its muscles again.
