Peer-review process
The journal Incidenza dell'Antico relies on a double-blind peer-review process. The responsibility for overseeing the process and ensuring its transparency lies with the Editorial Board. The members of the Editorial Board are also responsible for archiving and preserving the documents related to the review process that are sent to them by authors and reviewers via e-mail.
The journal applies a double-blind peer-review process for proposed articles and notes (separate, but only in the sense that in this case there is only one reviewer, and the review process of texts in thematic dossiers results from invited symposia by a scientific committee that guarantees the scientific quality of the contributions).
The proposed texts are received by the Editorial Board, which has the right to choose whether to reject the proposal (in the case of proven bad behaviour on the part of the potential author(s), or because it is incompatible with the editorial line and scientific objectives of the journal, for example, or because the material submitted is incomplete) or to initiate the review process; in very rare cases, in the presence of an author of recognised exceptional prestige, the Editorial Board may decide to omit the review process). In the second case, i.e. if the proposed text is admitted to the revision process, the Management, if necessary with the assistance of the members of the Scientific Committee, will identify the two reviewers (one of whom may possibly be chosen from among the members of the Scientific Committee, if the Scientific Secretariat is not involved in the revision process) and will then mediate between the author(s) and the reviewers, while protecting their identity, and take a final decision on the publication of the proposed text. In the event of a strong divergence between the opinions of the two reviewers, the Editorial Board will request a new opinion, thus initiating a second round of revision. Contacts between the Editorial Board, the reviewers and the author(s) take place by e-mail; the evaluation forms sent by the reviewers are received by the Management, which then sends them to the author(s) in PDF format.
The Editorial Board guarantees the protection of the identities of those involved in the review process. Only at the end of the process may the Editorial Board disclose the identity of the author(s) and reviewer(s) for the sole purpose of making direct contact with them. In the event of disputes or to report any problems that may arise, authors and reviewers will only contact the Management. Every two years, the Review publishes the list of reviewers, which does not explicitly correspond to the essays/notes examined and evaluated.
In the event that a member of the Editorial Board intends to propose a paper for publication in Incidenza dell'Antico, his/her proposal will also be subject to the double-blind review process. In order to ensure the transparency of the process and to avoid possible conflicts of interest, the other members of the Editorial Board will, exceptionally, take over all the tasks involved in overseeing the double-blind review for the dossier in question, effectively relieving the proposing member of his or her responsibilities, which will only be reassigned to him or her for the following issue.
Guidelines for proposing the paper
Papers intended for the ‘Saggi’ section must respect the limit of 65,000 characters (including spaces, excluding bibliography); those to the ‘Note’ section 30,000 characters (including spaces, excluding bibliography); those to the ‘Discussioni’ 20,000 (including spaces, excluding bibliography).
In exceptional cases, with the agreement of the Editorial Board, more extensive essays and notes may be accepted.
Once the articles (‘Saggi’ and ‘Note’) have passed preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Board and the Scientific Committee, they will be sent to two anonymous scientific reviewers (double-blind peer review). Authors are therefore requested to remove references that would allow them to be identified: these, together with the Author’s name, affiliation and institutional e-mail address, will be added after the evaluation is completed.
Each Author will receive a pdf extract of their contribution when the issue comes out. Authors are requested not to upload the full abstract on their Academia.edu (or similar) pages for at least 18 months; during this time, the first page may be uploaded, linking back to the journal page.
